About

BIOGRAPHY:

Bryn Stevenson was born into a family of working artists in the Slocan Valley during 1983.  As a little tot his father, an eager backcountry enthusiast, would bring him hiking all over the West Kootenays.  After attending one year at KSA in 2002/03, he knew he wanted to keep practicing art but not as jeweler or potter.   He later found inspiration from newer styles of painting and fell in love with the vibrant colors, workability and thick viscosity of oil paint.  He works mostly with a knife and feels somewhat like an instrument letting the knife and paint create the natural patterns and thick, rough textures of mountains.  Bryn also likes using brushes to create soft strokes and gentle blending.  Stevenson is primarily self-taught, molding his own style with influences from different sources and art forms.  He works from his own photography and direct experiences of local mountains as well from his imagination.   He loves dramatic scenes that hold peace, power and divine sovereignty and hopes his art will capture these vibrations and radiate them to others.  Bryn feels very thankful for all the beautiful mountains and trails in Canada along with all the wonderful people who have supported him.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

I have spent most of my life in this area of the world where it is very easy to notice the beauty of the earth.  High alpine mountains seem to radiate vibrations of peace, power and humility.  I have a keen desire to capture the magnificence of mountains and I feel a natural affinity for painting them with a knife.  Most of my paintings of local mountains are places I have been hiking to.  This is very important to me as I strive to capture the vibrations and the light illuminating our environment.  I try to open up to my intuition as much as possible because I believe that is the channel for all creativity to flow.  I would classify my art as an impressionistic form of realism.
